CHARTERZurich and Seattle (in July) 1982Everywhere in the world minority races and powerless people are discriminated against. A brutal police and military establishment terrorizes citizens of both the North and the South. Bourgeois law makes mental and physical cripples out of people daily. Billions of lives are wasted in the pursuit of nationalistic bourgeois goals. Worse: This minority of the world's population lives and amuses itself on the backs of the Third World countries. The bourgeoisie have done nothing for the third world since they took it over, more than 200 years ago. To the contrary: They have found ever new ways of exploiting it, first through direct colonialism and now through economic domination. And yet, despite all the misery it causes others the bourgeois system is now weakening, threatening even its own way of life. Its modern nuclear and chemical weapons systems can destroy the whole world. The distribution of power is not equal even within the bourgeois system itself. A minority rules over a majority today. Even in the so-called "free-world," true power resides not in democracy but in money and military power. It's a pity but the growth of the "alternative" scene is limited to the industrialized countries of the west. That is why we need an international instrument. Everywhere in the world people are beginning to wake up. They long for a world without weapons, hunger, oppression or discrimination. The International Progressive Organization supports these people in their fight because it believes that the Good can and must triumph over the Bad. The goals of the International Progressive OrganizationIPO supports anyone oppressed by bourgeois institutions, whether the person in need is fleeing, imprisoned, or in exile.IPO helps coordinate the world of progressive parties, organizations, and groups around the world.
